Malgrat de Mar is located in the Maresme region, by the Mediterranean Sea It is well connected by road and by train. It is a town with 15.000 inhabitants that is located in the Barcelona province. Malgrat’s main activity is tourism, but it has traditionally been a town with an important maritime trade and from the 19th century industrial activity as well.
Some recommended tours include the Turó d´en Serra, the Romanesque church of Sant Genís de Palafolls, the medieval castle of the Lords from Palafolls, Sant Nicolau’s church, the old fishmongers’ dating back from the end of the 19th century, the modernist Town Hall, the stately building of the Cooperative, the tower of Ca l’Arnau, the old Hospital and Chapel, Can Campasol Park, La Pilona, amongst many other places. The Maresme is a coastal region located between the areas of “El Barcelonés”, “La Selva” and “El Vallès”. It is located between the sea and the mountains. The Maresme has 30 towns and its capital city is Mataró. Amongst the highlights of this area are the Castel of Palafolls (12th to 15th century), the Romanesque church of Sant Genís de Palafolls and the sports centre of Arata Isozaki, the weekly Sunday market in Tordera and the natural surroundings of Montnegre, the mining-medicinal fountains of Boter and the Verder of Santa Susanna, the numerous modernist buildings in Canet de Mar and the Arenys de Mar harbour, as well as the large shopping centres of Roca del Vallès and many Pitch and Put courses.
